ESSO and KSSO Signed a Memorandum of Understanding 03/04/2017
On the occasion of the recent Congress SISSO2017 (Seoul International Symposium of Surgical Oncology) in Korea, ESSO and the Korean Society of Surgical Oncology (KSSO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding during a ceremony held on 24 February 2017.
KSSO is an affiliated society of ESSO and, thus, all individual members of the Korean society enjoy the standard membership benefits of ESSO. This means that they can apply an ESSO training fellowship or an ESSO congress fellowship grant in Europe and, more broadly, have access to the educational opportunities offered by our society, such as the Global Curriculum in surgical oncology and the regular courses and events.
The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding was to officialise an even closer partnership between the two societies; it foresees the organisation of ESSO-KSSO joint courses in Korea the participation of a representative of KSSO in the ESSO Membership Advisory Committee, which meets every two years.
Both the ESSO President, Prof. Santiago Gonzalez-Moreno, and the President-Elect Dr. Tibor Kovacs attended this congress in Asia and presented their most recent study findings about the ESSO’s perspective on the harmonisation of education, training and accreditation in surgical oncology in Europe, on the latest oncoplastic techniques in breast conservation surgery and their introduction in standard care, and on the peritoneal surface oncology current practice and research (after the discussions held at the 10th International Congress on Peritoneal Surface Malignancies in November 2016)
